Episode 68 A Lot of Firsts with Roland Stokes

Published on: 11th December, 2023

After serving in the US Airforce and working two jobs in near his hometown of Petersburg, VA, Roland Stokes didn't want to make the move further south with his company so he took the test to become a Chesterfield Firefighter. He was the first African American to become a career firefighter and one of the first career members to be assigned to a truck company.

Today Roland is trying to document more of the department's history with the Legacy Logbook Project.
